Providing Professional Evidence Based Medicine

Medicolegal Examination

You will be seen by a Medico-legal Administrator and by the Medical Expert, in privacy, where you will be able to fully discuss your injuries, both physical and psychological.

Please feel free to make notes and bring them with you.

You will normally be examined. This usually only involves removal of outdoor clothing, however a chaperonage is available if you would feel more comfortable.

The Doctor and administrator will make electronic notes of the consultation and examination, and this will be the basis for writing the medical report.

After you have been seen, the report will be completed, normally within 24 hours and sent to your solicitor soon after this. There maybe a delay in compiling your report, for example, if the Medical Expert feels it is necessary to review your medical notes before completing the report. Be assured that your report will be completed as soon as possible.

Your solicitor or insurance company will use the report to negotiate compensation on your behalf.

If the medical expert recommends any treatment, for example physiotherapy or psychological counselling, you will be contacted about this separately after your appointment.

Insurance Medical Examination

You will been seen by a fully qualified Doctor who will take you through the assessment requested by your insurance company.

You will initially be asked some questions about your past medical history and any medications that you currently have prescribed. It would be helpful if you could bring a note of this past history and current medications with you. The Doctor will also ask you about any history of illness within your immediate family.

You will be examined, and may have to remove outdoor and indoor clothing (not including underwear). A chaperonage is available if required, and your privacy will be respected at every stage of the assessment.

You may be asked to provide a sample of urine, or have a blood test. The results of this will be sent back to your insurance company.

If any significant medical conditions are discovered, you will be informed by the Doctor on the day and advised to attend your own Doctor.

Should the results of your blood or urine test reveal any significant abnormality, your insurance company will inform your own Doctor directly.

The information you provide will be send to your insurance company promptly in order for them to provide you with an opinion.
